2nd Week Diary in Banjarmasin

In the land of “The Thousand Rivers” - My 2nd week diary in Banjarmasin

The first day of the week, Monday (August 14, 2017), today would be our first Practice Teaching/Teaching Assisstant in the English class of Mr. Muslim where I will be teaching his class 6F and 5C. I felt nervous at the first time because last week, we only had observation and teaching assistant but when I stepped in the front and started introduction to the lesson, all the nervousness I felt was gone and I gained confidence and I enjoyed it. The first thing we did was I gave them some ice-breakers. Before I started my lesson for the class, I introduced The Hookie Pookie Song and the students enjoyed it very much. We danced and sing aloud, the class really enjoyed the ice-breaker even though they just heard it the first time. After the motivation, I started the discussion in the class which I was assisted by Mr. Muslim in using the audio device through his mobile phone. The lesson that I discussed this day was all about comprehension in self information and development in communication skills. The class was given a book activity where they will answer their books through audio hearing. After the activity we had, we sang another song entitled The Job Song which they find it really entertaining.

The second day if the week, Tuesday (August 15, 2017), it is my second day in teaching and observing English class of Mr. Muslim. Me, together with my co-student teacher Mylyn, from Philippines as well, we observed and assisted Mr. Muslim in his English classes to 6E and 6D. The topic was all about story telling which Mr. Muslim discussed and after, Mr. Muslim gave an activity to which it was all about the information and characters in the story that was told.

The third day of the week, Wednesday (August 16, 2017). Today marks the 1st day celebration of all the schools here in Indonesia in participating the nation-wide Sports' day in which all schools prepared games, activities and programs so that the students and each of their families and as wells as the faculties could join and participate and at the same time enjoy the Sports' day competition tournament.

The games and activities is not far from what we have back in the Philippines. Some of the games and sports they have here is played as well in my country like Tag of war, Sack Race, Eating Contest and Spoon Game. The program was really fun because all the parents participated to some games like the Tag of War which there is a tournament of parents vs. parents and then teachers vs. teachers right afterwards. Luckily, we were asked to join some tournament as well and we were invited to join the Tag of War to which our team we won which we were very happy.
On the 4th day of the week, (August 17, 2017), Thursday. Today is the 72nd Independence Day of Indonesia where I really feel the excitement and joy to the people and in the whole city because in the streets, buildings and any public places I could see Indonesian flags and decorations are very visible in all the public places around. The colors Red and White are in very roof and walls around the city and even the streets, they also put flatlets. In school, we attended their formal ceremony where they had marching, singing songs for their country and their religion, the headmaster gave history of the country and lastly after the 2 hour ceremony, we had awarding to which all the winners from The Sports' Day was awarded.
The last day of the week, Friday (August 18, 2017). Today, Mr. Muslim let us observe his class in 5A and 6C for the last time, before we will be teaching all his class next week. He let us observe for today in preparation for our teaching demo next week and as well as preparation for the next Friday's teaching demo evaluation where I find it exciting and at the same time nervous. Today we only observe Mr. Muslim class where he told a story, Goldilock's and The Three Bears. And after, he gave a book activity for the class to answer and for them to comprehend the story that was told.
